The Victoria Cross: Centenary Exhibition- The stories of the winning of the Victoria Crosses which are represented in the exhibition (1956) By Marlborough House
The stories of the winning of the Victoria Crosses, which are represented in the exhibition.
Citations and accounts (many quite lengthy) of the winners of the Victoria Crosses represented in the exhibition, since its inception in 1856. A most useful record.
A catalogue of 199 Victoria Cross medals won between 1856 and the end of the Second World War, each with a report of the action as published by the London Gazette. This notable exhibition was organised at the headquarters of the Commonwealth in London in the centenary year of the award, being the same year that the Victoria Cross Association was formed. The medals here include those of Leonard Cheshire, Guy Gibson, as well as Gonville Bromhead and John Chard of Rorke's Drift fame.
This catalogue should not be confused with its similarly titled but much smaller counterpart [Mulholland & Jordan H81] issued in purple wrappers to accompany the same exhibition held at Marlborough House. THE PRESENT WORK IS THE ONLY CATALOGUE TO LIST IN FULL THE CITATIONS OF ALL 640 VICTORIA CROSSES ON DISPLAY AND IS CONSIDERABLY SCARCER THAN THE ABRIDGED 39PP VERSION. The catalogue is arranged chronologically from inception to 1951. Very Scarce.
