Lonely Warrior: The Journal Of Battle Of Britain Fighter Pilot Jean Offenberg (1956) By Victor Houart
Belgian Pilot, Offenberg flew with the RAF in both 145 Squadron and 609 Squadron. He was the first Belgian to receive the DFC, and the first, despite his junior rank of Flight Lieutenant, to lead a British squadron into action. He engaged in 37 principal attacks - mainly against aircraft, but against shipping as well. He recorded his exploits in three cheap notebooks, and his edited (and annotated) journal is reproduced here. He was killed on active service on 22 January 1942.
