Battle Of Britain: The Making of a Film (1969) By Leonard Mosley

Leonard Mosley covered the Battle of Britain as a war correspondent and in 1968 was commissioned to write this hybrid history of the conflict and Harry Salzman's epic film production. It would be flippant to say the tale of the movie is more gripping than the battle itself but the producers had to overcome huge obstacles to bring it to the screen and the story of money, egos and improbable logistics twists and turns like a fleeing Me 109. As a unique take on a subject covered hundreds of times it is very enjoyable, linking as it does the experiences of the war generation with that of the swinging sixties.
