This publication is an outcome of the Chief of the Air Staff's Air Power Workshop which consists of leading academics and senior military officers. The chapters, based on detailed research and the operational experience of the authors, incorporate lessons from the past, including the recent past of Kosovo and Chechnya. Beyond the theme of air power, there are several other common themes in the book. These include: the changes brought about by the collapse of communism and the demise of the Warsaw Pact; financial pressures exacerbated by the rate of change of technology in the last decade; tensions between maintaining forces in operational use and having units ready to deploy; the role of the media.
